Chalk It Up

Go chalkboard something. You know you want to.

A super easy and cheap way to transform a wall, cabinet door, pantry door, kids room, any table or desk, closet doors, kitchen back splash, an old refrigerator or dishwasher, make a welcome sign by the front door, flower pots, and much more...
chalk board paint.

Tired of looking at yourself? You can even chalk board an already framed mirror!

Martha Stewart had a great idea for place mats/place cards when entertaining. And while you're at it, chalk board a rectangle on the front of some galvanized wash tubs to put your party drinks in and label what is in each one.

The best part is that the chalkboard paint comes in brush on or spray paint applications. Before we were limited to either black or old school green chalkboard colors...now they have a mixable base that you can color any color you want. So easy, even my 9 year old can do it--

I painted our pantry door in our kitchen because it is a great place to jot down appointments, dates, grocery lists, phone numbers, menus for parties and the kids love to draw on it. I usually do 3-4 coats of chalkboard paint for adequate coverage and I wait at least 8 hours in between coats of paint.

Chalkboard paint works on metal, wood, plastic, glass, hardboard and paperboard which makes it perfect for just about any project you can think of. For best results you should apply it to a flat surface. If your walls are textured, you might want to coat a thin piece of plywood in your desired size for the wall and trim it out with some nice wood moulding or vintage wood trim.

Tired of your husband not putting the seat down after he pees? You can even chalkboard the top of your toilet lid and write him friendly reminders; or maybe you'd just like to be the first to say good morning.

I've also used the chalkboard paint on terra cotta pots and given them as gifts to teachers with a plant in it or filled the pot with other goodies.

As I type this, my mind is busy thinking about what else I can chalkboard in my house.

Happy Chalking,
